Chai Me Up, June 27, '12

Well, isn't this a pleasant surprise. Due to RL events precluding them, my two Saturday sets are not going to be happening this week, so I was able to concentrate my efforts on getting the one steampunk event I have to worry about all squared away early. Here's what's going on

Firstly, I'd like to apologize for my radio silence. There are two basic reasons for this. The first is that the machine I use to DJ with, and (usually) to post to this blog with, was accidentally converted to a high-tech brick by a stupid-user trick. *hangs head in shame* And this happened the morning after a set was recorded but not posted.

The second reason was that, after the system was completely rebuilt, we have been spending large amounts of time clearing up unnecessary duplications in the music library and DJing and building sets, etc. This has all left no time for updating the blog. But this is finally changing. We've gotten through the worst of it and, two DJ household that this is, we're getting things back the way it needs to be for continued functioning.

In the meantime, I've still been recording the sets I've played since our week of forced absence from spinning music. So this means that there will be a burst of podcasts coming to you soon, not only from my Aelven Aetherics gigs (Elven/Celtic/edgy steampunk), but also from my Chai Me Up (Mediterranean flavored steampunk) and Blues-Infused Steam (Blues & Ragtime mixed into steampunk) sets.

So don't despair. I'm coming back with more music for you soon. And maybe something of a redesign on the site to try to help make things easier to find.

Note: I will be back-dating the posts to their actual dates, so don't be surprised if this posts stays on top for a while.

Chai Me Up, June 6

We're still back-filling the set lists, but at least we've almost caught up to the post telling you all about why we have to back-fill. This set was recorded in The Mondrago Dj-Inn, which was temporarily floating over a friend's land while we looked for an anchorage for the Chai Me Up barge. Here's the playlist:

  33. Chaos Boogie by Tony Joe White
Now, you may have noticed that, unlike most of the sets I've posted before this, there are no hand-dandy links you can use to buy the music if you wanted to. This is because California (the state I live in) just signed a law that said that Amazon has to pay taxes on the affiliate sales it makes. So, Amazon, as is their right, cancelled every single affiliate account they had with any person or entity registered/residing in California. But they're going to keep selling products to people and businesses residing in California. And they've done the same thing in every other state that has decided that commissions to state residents are taxable. Now, while I'm not sure that those taxes themselves are constitutional (since regulation of interstate and international commerce resides in Federal hands), taking awayincome from people who've been selling things for you in one state while still selling in that state yourself is a dick-ish move.

So, I'm working on finding ways to provide you with links to the music from other sources, I have removed Amazon ads from this site and recommend that you find other ways to pick up your online goods.

And, with that piece of economic drama out of the way, here's the link for this week's show.
